Our heritage

For generations, Zbären has been synonymous with the craft of cabinet making. Located in the secluded village of Lenk, Zbären Schreinerei had modest beginnings. Back then, Johann Zbären senior started out with a workshop in an old barn.

His two sons, Hans and Enrico Zbären, take over the workshop and build up the business. The company is run by the two brothers, a secretary (sister), an apprentice and a part-time worker.

Thanks to crucial investments, made-to-measure orders become possible. The company begins making the first completely customised kitchens, furniture and bathrooms. The description ‘kitchen + bath with the golden dot’ is born. The first major international projects go ahead in London, Bermuda and New York.

In 1998, the last expansion of the production facilities at the original location is completed. E&H Zbären Schreinerei evolves into a bona fide company: Zbären Kreativküchen AG. Other international projects, including in the south of France, London and Mallorca, follow.

The showroom and design office in Saanenmöser opens its doors in 2003.

A new generation in management: Benjamin and Matthias Zbären have plans to restructure the company. Customers benefit from the company’s greater flexibility and capacity.

The old production site reaches capacity and the move to the new production facility in Lenk is a big step for the company. Everything is in place to ramp up production.

With our love for kitchens and our attention to detail, every kitchen becomes a unique work of art. Pictures do not do justice to these artisanal creations. Zbären kitchens should be experienced first-hand, and our new showroom in the heart of Bern’s old town offers the perfect opportunity.

Over the years, the company has developed from a simple mountain carpenter’s workshop into a thriving business with around 40 employees. Our expertise in creating hand-finished showpiece kitchens from the finest materials has long since become the brand’s trademark, and together with the cultivated Bernese Oberland charm of our family enterprise, it’s the reason behind our international profile.
